Understanding the Psychological Testing of Intelligence

Our range of psychometric assessments provide valuable insights into cognitive abilities, academic performance and job suitability. These assessments are crucial in identifying potential learning difficulties, learning disorders, giftedness and areas where extra support is needed.  Whilst the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) score is an important metric, there are many other important measurements and assessments that are examined as part of a test of intelligence.

Intelligence (IQ) testing is undertaken with the WISC-V for children and younger adolescents or WAIS-IV for older adolescents and adults, considered the gold standard for intelligence testing worldwide.  Evaluation of intelligence goes beyond just a simple IQ score. It delves deep into various cognitive domains such as verbal comprehension, visual spatial skills, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed.

The testing process for intelligence includes:

1.  Pre assessment clinical intake interview
2.  Undertaking the assessment
3.  Post-assessment, a detailed report with feedback and recommendations is provided

Continued optional supports include further feedback and sessions for treatment.  IQ testing by registered psychologists at Meyer Institute can be followed up with and complimented by testing for psychosocial difficulties including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism (ASD), academic achievement, personality testing, occupational assessment, defence veteran evaluation and support, workplace stress testing and many others.

A comprehensive memory test such as the Wecshler Memory Scale Fourth Edition (WMS-IV) and tests of daily living skills (adaptive tests) may be necessary in cases such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), an aquired brain injury (ABI) or dementia or psychosis occurring from brain trauma. Please phone us or message us if you would like to enquire about these assessments.  If you would like to book an IQ assessment now, please read on below.
