NDIS Psychology Assessments
Meyer Institute psychologists undertake NDIS assessments and can assist with the NDIS application process.
Assessments conducted include intelligence (IQ) tests and assessments, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) testing and Autism (ASD) testing, psychosocial and functional capacity assessment.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) aims to empower individuals with disabilities improve their wellbeing, to achieve their goals and to increase community inclusion. Identifying reduced capacity due to mental health conditions requires assessments and clinical reports in order to apply for supports.
How does the NDIS apply in mental impairment?
Children, adolescents and adults with psychosocial disabilities must have a mental impairment resulting in disability to access the NDIS. This is broadly defined by the NDIS as long-term impairments that hinder full participation in society.
What are the criteria to qualify for NDIS supports?
To access NDIS, evidence of permanent mental impairment or disability due to a mental health condition is required. Your condition may be permanent, but is not a guarantee of success in application. It is imperative that applicants have a thorough psychosocial assessment as undertaken by Meyer Institute.
What are key considerations when applying for the NDIS?
1. Treatment history (this includes any clinical interview, assessment and report by Meyer Institute).
2. Permanent condition, such as long-term schizophrenia. Fluctuating mental health conditions can be considered based on severity and frequency.
3. Impairment substantially reduces psychosocial functioning in communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, or self-care. It doesn't have to be all of those areas. Impairment may be apparent in work, home or school.
4. Reduced functional capacity based on the inability to function independently in daily activities. A substantial reduction means being unable to effectively participate in tasks, not just taking longer or more effort.
5. Clinical observation and reporting of impacts on social and economic participation.
6. Detailed evidence of psychosocial disability such as provided through Meyer Institute clinical interview, assessment and report.
7. Prospective NDIS participants need to provide evidence of their disability's impact on daily living. In addition to testing, Meyer Institute assess a variety of documents when undertaking psychosocial assessment. Documents reviewed may include parent interviews, school reports, workplace evidence, medical evidence from general practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists and other specialists where available. Additional helpful information includes prior assessments from government agencies and service providers.
What is not required when applying for the NDIS?
Personal trauma details are not required.
Demonstrating current support aids is helpful but not essential in determining NDIS access.
